BISD (Skilling):  According to a data published by ADB about 67%  of the people who migrate are unskilled and is the primary reason for low wages and vulnerability.  BRAC believes in helping people to realize their full potential and thus begun the journey of BRAC Institute of Skills development (BISD).This initiative ensures inclusive and sustainable market development by enhancing employment opportunities through apprenticeships, institution based training and enterprise development. 

BRAC-ISD, established in 2017, is a Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) registered training organization and is accredited by City & Guilds, it delivers technical and vocational qualification with competency based training and assessment to help generate decent employment.

Progoti- Migration Welfare Loan (for bearing the expenses of travel): The costs associated with migration, instigates people to choose irregular channels, sell all their possessions, or borrow money from loan sharks, which induces a greater challenge for the migrants. To ease the burden of the costs of migration BRAC Microfinance introduced the Migration Welfare loan in 2011.

The loan is disbursed according to the guidelines, but prior to loan approval, a through verification is done to ensure that the migrants are migrating through regular channels, with valid visa and proper employment documents.

Achievements:

 BDT 62,466,300,000  is loan disbursement.

294,764  migrants provided with loan.

 

bKash (Ease of remittance sending): The migrants are often unaware or are unable to access regular channels to send remittance and fall into a trap of chicanery, while accessing the irregular channels. With BRACs objective to provide 360 degree support, bKash, a BRAC sister concern enables migrants to send remittance through a secured channel bKash.

bKash enables real time money transfer facility from all around the world. bKash has partnerships with various banks and money transfer channels like Western Union and TransFast which operates globally, there are some country specific Money Transfer Operator/Exchange houses. It is real time (24/7) and fully automated process which has already gained popularity and momentum among the various country migrant workers and enables the sender to remit money bKash customer instantly and the beneficiary can withdraw (cash-out) the money from any agent location across the nation which definitely ensures the recipient to transact with ease, speed and confidentiality.  After receiving Remittance bKash customer does not do cash out only; rather they can avail other bKash regular services like P2P, Airtime recharge, Merchant payment and Utility bill payment.

BRAC Migration Progarmme - Reintegration support: Unsuccessful migration, and the associated stigma, often leads to circular migration. It is a common phenomenon among the returnees, at times it is the inability of the returnees to adjust to the family and community, socially and economically. Thus BRAC migration programme offers reintegration support to returnees. This is done by psychosocial counseling, re-skilling on entrepreneurship development and financial linking support for successful reintegration. 

We offer Entrepreneurship training, and help in providing on arrival support, help in business development, provide financial linkages, provide recognition for prior learning, psychosocial counselling for quality and successful reintegration.
